A two hander dramatisation of Raymond Briggs graphic novel, written in 1982.
At the start of the play, the Cold War is about to turn hot, as Soviet forces muster on the East German border. Jim and Hilda Bloggs are a simple minded pair who live somewhere in the British countryside. Jim has been to the library and solemnly read all the official advice and has gone home to Hilda, to carry out the advice as best he can. Hilda though is confused whether it is the Nazis or the Russians who are about to attack. The bomb falls, but even then, Jim and Hilda do not understand why there are no services, why the milk is not delivered and expect life to continue as normal.
The play follows this simple-minded pair to the poignant end of the story.
